Definition 

• Synonyms are words or phrases that have similar or the same meanings as another word. For example, “happy” and “joyful” are synonyms because they convey a similar feeling of pleasure or contentment. 

• Antonyms are words or phrases that have opposite meanings to another word. For example, “happy” and “sad” are antonyms because they convey opposite feelings.

 Examples: 

i. Synonyms 

• Big: large, huge, enormous 

• Quick: fast, speedy, rapid

 • Smart: intelligent, clever, bright

 ii. Antonyms 

• Hot: cold, cool, chilly

 • Light: dark, heavy 

• Easy: difficult, hard, challenging
