(PRELOVED) WISDOM OF THE MALAY PROVERBS [RAK 116]

There has been little scholarly study of proverbs in the Malay world beyond several attempts at compiling them. This volume will fill this gap and gives more understanding of the wisdom in the proverbs of the Minang in particular, which many in the Malay world believed to be their cultural ancestors.
In addition, it provides structural, metaphorical, and functional analysis of proverbs that will allow this genre of folklore in the Malay world to be compared with similar studies of proverbs in other languages and offers a new approach to the analysis of items in this field. The second part of the volume contains the body of Minang proverbs considered, their Malay equivalents, and detailed explanations of their metaphors and use. This will allow readers to better understand the proverbs and to compare them with utterances they know and use.
This study, it, is hoped, will provide encouragement and perhaps a model for future work on other proverbs of the Malay world.
